Accommodation, grounds and facilities

Whilst each of our four houses has its own unique character, they are all designed to provide a comfortable, homely and sociable environment.  All our residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible and each house has a dedicated team of care and domestic staff to support them with their day-to-day needs.

Paradise House is set within approximately 27 acres of magnificent grounds within the beautiful Painswick Valley.  Not only do our extensive gardens provide a beautiful and tranquil natural environment, but they also offer our residents the freedom to enjoy the outdoors in safety.

Our residential living accommodation consists of four separate houses: Main House, Four Seasons, Tobias and Oak & Pine.

Main House forms part of the original residence at Paradise House – a grand 18th century country house originally owned by a wealthy Gloucestershire businessman.   It has seven bedrooms along with a self-contained flat, two lounges, kitchen and shared dining room.  Angel Wing has a separate entrance together with its own kitchen and bathrooms.  The house also includes Main Hall where all our residents meet every weekday morning before attending workshops.  The hall is also used for group activities such as Tai Chi, dancing and music.

Four Seasons is located next to Main House and is home to six residents supported by four members of our care staff.  The house includes a self-contained flat for one of the residents.

Located at the top of the drive, Tobias is a spacious eight-bedroom house which is currently home to six residents with two staff members sleeping in each night.   It has a recently refurbished open plan kitchen/diner, lounge and laundry along with a separate computer room for residents’ use.  Tobias also incorporates a semi-independent flat.

Although usually referred to in the same breath, Oak & Pine are two adjoining houses which offer modern and spacious architect-designed accommodation for up to nine residents.    Oak is the larger of the two houses and is currently home to seven residents.   Pine has two further bedrooms along with an airy open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge.  As it is set on a single level, Pine is particularly suited to those residents who are less mobile.

Our garden and grounds not only provide plenty of space for our residents to enjoy the outdoors in safety but also offer the opportunity to participate in horticultural activities.  Our walled garden is put to good use for fruit and vegetable growing and the large lawn outside Main House is used for outdoor games and activities.

The recently constructed sensory garden – built as a memorial to Friedrich and Ellie Roder who devoted many years to running Paradise House – provides a tranquil space for residents to relax and enjoy the natural environment.

Our well-equipped craft and textiles workshop, pottery workshop and art room are put to daily use for workshops and provide an excellent resource for our residents to develop their skills and express their creativity.  Our talented and enthusiastic Activity Leaders run daily workshops each weekday and provide residents with support and guidance on a variety of creative activities.

We also have a literacy and IT room attached to Main House which is regularly used by residents for carrying out research and for communicating with family and friends.

After a hard morning in the workshop, you could be forgiven for feeling that you deserve a bit of pampering.  Fortunately, we have our very own Health & Wellbeing Centre which offers just that.  Designed and built to a very high specification, it would not look out of place in a luxury spa hotel!

Set next to our sensory garden, the Health & Wellbeing Centre includes a massage table and a salon for hair, nail and beauty treatments.  Manicures and pedicures are provided by one of our Activity Assistants.  Residents who really wish to treat themselves can book themselves in for a relaxing massage – everything from a hand massage to a full body massage – provided by a qualified masseuse who visits twice a week.

Located in the heart of the Paradise estate, the Eden Café provides an excellent place for residents, staff and visitors to meet, socialise and enjoy delicious food and drinks in a relaxed setting.

Once a week, residents have lunch in the café with staff and the other members of their house along with afternoon tea twice weekly.  The café is also used for weekly bingo sessions and includes a social area with exhibition space to display items made by residents in the workshops, together with a DVD cinema lounge.

As well as being used for cookery and baking workshops, the Eden Café also provides residents with the opportunity to gain work experience working alongside members of our staff.  Not only does this allow them to acquire valuable practical skills but it also helps to develop self-confidence and independence skills.
